As we begin our next 25 years, I pause to the think of the efforts of our volunteers over the last 25 years. I am humbled by the efforts of so many who have shaped the invisible face of our service. They truly breathe words into the lives of our 20,000 listeners who are print impaired. So to the volunteers many of us only know as a friendly voice, “Thank you for your efforts.” We have an unbelievable group of readers who help bring 87 hours of programming to life each and every week. Looking ahead, the next 25 years are full of challenges as well as opportunities for a new group of volunteers – volunteers whose talents may help in ways other than on the air. Let’s take some questions about the future. What technologies will be available to make our service more accessible? How will we make our service more portable and easier to use on the go? What programming will be relevant and meaningful to our aging Baby Boomer population? And, how can we make TRRS available to a wider audience? As we look into our collective crystal ball, some answers will evolve more naturally than others. One thing is for certain, our need for off-air volunteers and underwriting will be vital to the continued success of TRRS. If you are looking to use your professional skills in the areas of sponsorship sales, accounting, IT/IS, public relations, grant writing, training, research, commercial real estate or administration, we have opportunities here at Triangle Radio Reading Service – and – you’re invited to join us. Or, if you know someone with these skills, feel free to introduce them to TRRS. We need you to help grow the infrastructure of our service. The need for your help will grow as the wave of Baby Boomers become our listeners of the future and that future is almost here. Be well and make it a great day! Brian Hoyle, President |
